Frequently Asked Questions

What actually changes between SRT and VTT?

The timestamp decimal separator (SRT uses a comma — 00:01:02,500 — while VTT uses a dot), the WEBVTT header that VTT files must start with, and cue numbering, which SRT requires and VTT makes optional. All three are rewritten for you.

When do I need VTT instead of SRT?

HTML5 video and most web players (YouTube embeds, Vimeo, video.js) require WebVTT. Desktop players and editing software usually prefer SRT. This tool moves your captions between the two worlds without retyping anything.

Are my subtitle files uploaded?

No. Parsing and rewriting happen entirely in your browser — the files never leave your device.
